Choose your Hydra

With several kayaks in the Hydra series, there is a sporty tourer to suit all adventure seekers. Experienced Paddlers will love the speed, precision, and responsiveness, giving them the freedom to push their limits and explore new horizons. Kayakers new to touring will appreciate the comfort, stability, user-friendly handling and exhilarating feel either design of the Hydra offers.

The Hydra family of kayaks is a multi-boat line up - with two shorter Hydra 125 models and two longer Hydra 145 models... both the Hydra 125 and Hydra 145 are available in a standard volume and LV (lower volume) version - offering sizing to suit a variety of paddlers. The two Hydra 145 models are available in our new TriFuse Technology material construction in addition to our standard single-layer construction.

125 VS 145

The Hydra 125 and Hydra 145 are both sporty tourers with modern hull designs pushing the limits of performance in each of their length categories.

With an increase in agility and ease of transportation and storage, the Hydra 125 possesses an ideal blend of characteristics to suit the adventure tourer looking to explore waters and and get close to nature.

While the Hydra 145 remains a favourite for extended tours and robust performance, combining impressive acceleration, top speed, tracking and handling. If you're looking for a day tourer that delivers it all, check out the Hydra 145.

LOW VOLUME VS STANDARD SIZE

Both LV (low volume) versions of the Hydra offer the same performance characteristics and features as the standard versions - hull designs have been specifically tailored to perform for slightly smaller and lighter paddlers.

Snugger cockpit ergonomics in the LV's allow for better fit and contact for a small/medium paddler. The shape of the cockpit brings both the day pod hatch and a spraydeck pull handle slightly closer to the paddler and in easy reach. Knee and foot positioning is also adjusted, with slightly lower thigh grips and closer footrests.

By contrast, the standard versions of the Hydra 125 and 145 give increased height around the knees offering a little more room and comfort for any medium to large sized paddlers.

TRIFUSE VS SINGLE-LAYER

A choice of material construction is offered in both the Hydra 145 and Hydra 145 LV only. With both construction options all other kayak features and outfitting remain the same.

Choose our standard single-layer option for the widest variety of adventures and touring experiences. We have used the most advanced SuperLinear polyethylene for decades across all our kayak genres including all our whitewater models. We believe our single-layer construction is most suitable for the majority of paddlers - this is because our high density SuperLinear polyethylene has been specifically formulated for our purpose and not only delivers the robustness needed for the rigours of activities like whitewater paddling, but delivers it at a weight which is highly competitive for kayaks in their category. Our single-layer construction is also stiffer than most competitors, delivering higher hull performance comparable to some others three-layer options.

Choose our TriFuse Technology option for the ultimate in performance, when maximising the hull potential in the Hydra 145 matters above all else. Our TriFuse Technology employs our SuperLinear polyethylene to form both the outer and inner layers of the kayak. Sandwiched between these layers is a foamed polyethylene layer that further increases the stiffness of the Hydra hull. While giving up robustness compared to the single layer version, the extra stiffness of TriFuse helps retain the on water hull shape and performance in the pushiest of conditions.

To sum up: if you know you want to unleash the ultimate performance from your Hydra 145, choose TriFuse Technology. If you want everyday performance or the highest levels of robustness, choose our single-layer construction. Both provide unparalleled experiences at the same competitively targeted weight!
